Standard and Guide to Best Practice for Archaeological Archiving in Europe

In 2008, the Europae Archaeologiae Consilium (EAC) decided to examine the question of archiving archaeological documentation. The working group created by the EAC following that decision brought together several specialists from a number of member countries and secured the establishment of the ARCH:ES project supported by the Culture Programme 2007-2013 of the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency of the European Union.
The ARCH:ES (Archaeological Resources in Cultural Heritage – a European Standard) project ran from June 2012 till May 2014 and has published "A Standard and Guide to Best Practice in Archaeological Archiving in Europe".
The Guide is available in 7 languages and can be downloaded for free here. For the English PDF publication, please follow this link.

For more information on the project, you can also visit the general ARCHES website. Any questions or
comments can be addressed to the ARCHES address: arches[at]e-a-c.org or to the ICAHM vice presidency for Europe: Cynthia.dunning[at]archaeoconcept.com

International conference “Flood Protection for Historic Sites”, June 13 – 14, 2014 in Dresden, Germany

University in Dresden, under the patronage of the Saxon Minister of the Interior and in association with the German National Committee of ICOMOS.
Increasingly frequent disasters involving high water have led to efforts in many parts of the world to enhance flood protection. Although the extensive structural measures that are often undertaken also protect historic sites, at times these very measures can impair a site’s special values. Not enough attention has been given in the past to such adverse effects. This interdisciplinary colloquium will discuss relevant experiences from various contexts and professional perspectives. Further information is to be found in the program and on the following website:

Online survey: The Nara Document on authenticity

Nara Confernece on Authenticity
The year 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of the Nara Document on AuthenticityJapan's Agency for Cultural Affairs is planning a conference to celebrate this anniversary in October 2014.
ICOMOS Japan will cooperate with the Agency on this event. As part of the preparation, Prof. Toshiyuki Kono, a member of ICOMOS Japan and the Executive Committee, has taken the initiative to plan the conference. This is part the preparation for the 2014 ICOMOS General Assembly in Florence as well.
As an important step toward these meetings in 2014, an online survey on the Nara Document has been created in four languages. It can be found by clicking hereIf you could complete this survey or forward this to your colleagues and friends, ICOMOS Japan would be very grateful. The submission deadline is January 15th, 2014.
